HUDSON PHILLIPS

I write big, fun, action-adventure films and tiny, quirky, sci-fi indie films—both with an extra large dollop of humor and heart.

Hudson grew up in a small town in south Georgia (complete with a thick southern accent) until his pharmacist father uprooted their family to serve the sick in Haiti. After his dad passed away, he returned to Atlanta (thankfully growing out of the accent) and fell in love with writing and all things genre as a way to cope with his loss.

His first feature as a writer and producer, the post-apocalyptic film THIS WORLD ALONE was released on Hulu, won “best feature” at six film festivals, “best screenplay” at two, and received a positive review in The New York Times. His second feature, the grounded sci-fi romance GUACAMOLE YESTERDAYS is now in its festival run. That film won "best feature" at South Georgia Film Festival, the audience award for "Best Feature" at Phoenix Film Festival, and "Best Genre Screenplay" at Nashville Film Festival.

Hudson previously served as a writer-for-hire on four screenplays at different phases of development, had a script optioned by Lions Gate Films, graduated Roadmap Writer’s Career Writer Program, was a Semifinalist in Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Contest, a Semifinalist in ScreenCraft Action & Adventure Screenplay Competition, and had one of the Top 50 Action Scripts on Coverfly (phew!). He’s spoken on screenwriting and indie filmmaking at numerous workshops, festivals, and podcasts (including Show Don't Tell and Making Movies is Hard). Additionally, his pulp sci-fi short story, SPILT MILK, was published in Infinite Worlds magazine.

Hudson writes genre films that aren’t afraid of sentimentality or a sense of wonder—the kind of movies that help audiences embrace their emotions... not just escape them.

A former single dad to a now college-bound son, Hudson and his wife are now empty nesters, living outside of Atlanta with their two rescue hound dogs and a shit-ton of books.
